Joint efforts are underway to protect the cultural heritage of Mykolaiv. On July 20, 2023, a missile strike on the city center caused significant damage to a local architectural landmark — the late 19th–early 20th century residential building commonly known as the Menkini House.
As a result of the attack, the building suffered severe destruction: the roof was completely destroyed, the main and side façades were damaged, and windows and doors were blown out. The site required urgent emergency stabilization and conservation measures.
The Culture Resilience Agency responded to a request from the Mykolaiv Department for Cultural Heritage Protection to support emergency and conservation works. The initiative is being implemented within a project aimed at stabilizing damaged cultural heritage sites in Ukraine, with support from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).
In line with the approved application, the Agency’s team carried out 3D photography and laser scanning of the site. Currently, with the involvement of local architects and builders, the first phase of preservation is being implemented, including the development of scientific and project documentation as well as urgent conservation and emergency stabilization works.
The Agency extends its gratitude to all partners and specialists involved, and to the Mykolaiv Department for Cultural Heritage Protection for their cooperation.
